Another study of cardamom powder revealed certain enzymes fought against cancer. A study on mice revealed that cardamom prevented 29% of the mice from developing cancer.

May Protect from Chronic Diseases Thanks to Anti-Inflammatory Effects

The antioxidants in cardamom may protect cells from damage and stop inflammation from occurring. One study revealed how cardamom was effective in inhibiting at least four different inflammatory compounds in rats. Another study showed that eating cardamom powder decreased liver inflammation induced by eating a diet high in carbs and fat.

May Help with Digestive Problems, Including Ulcers

A study on rats fed extracts of cardamom, turmeric and sembung leaf in hot water before being exposed to high doses of aspirin to induce stomach ulcers. These rats developed fewer ulcers compared to rats that only received aspirin. Another study showed that cardamom extract alone could reduce the size of a gastric ulcer by at least 50%. Cardamom extract was also shown more effective than common anti-ulcer medication. Test-tube research revealed cardamom being a possible protection against Helicobacter pylori. This is a bacterium that can develop stomach ulcer issues.

May Lower Blood Sugar Levels

The powder form of cardamom may lower blood sugar. A study done on rats fed a high-fat, high-carb (HFHC) diet caused their blood sugar levels to remain elevated longer than if they were fed a normal diet. When these same rats were fed cardamom powder, the blood sugar did not stay elevated longer than the rats on a normal diet.

Liver Protection

Cardamom extract decreased elevated liver enzymes, triglyceride and cholesterol levels.

Anxiety

A rat study showed cardamom extract preventing anxious behaviors. This may be due to low blood levels of antioxidants having been linked to the development of anxiety and other mood disorders.

Weight Loss

A study showed that obese prediabetic women discovered that cardamom slightly reduced waist circumference. Though rat studies have not had similar results.
