Rich in Antioxidants
Consuming antioxidants may help decrease the risk of chronic disease and improve your overall health.
Rich in Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that can help boost immune system and prevents cold/flu.
Low in Tannins and Free from Caffeine and Oxalic Acid
The lower amount of caffeine in a diet is considered generally safe. Due to the lack of caffeine, it is an excellent alternative to black and green tea.
May Boost Heart Health
Antioxidants have been linked to a healthier heart. The drinking of this tea may have beneficial effects on blood pressure by inhibiting angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). In a study conducted, six cups of rooibos tea daily for six weeks, showed a decrease in “bad” LDL cholesterol while boosting “good” HDL cholesterol.
May Reduce Cancer
The antioxidants quercetin and luteolin, which are an element of rooibos, can kill cancer cells and prevent tumor growth.
May Lower the Risk of Type 2 Diabetes
Rooibos is known to have a natural source of antioxidant aspalathin, which through studies have suggested may have anti-diabetic effects.
Gingerol is the main bioactive compound in ginger. It has much of the medicinal properties. This compound has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.
May Treat Nausea and Morning Sickness
It has a long history as helping with sea sickness and has some evidence of being effective as a prescription medication. It can also relieve nausea and vomiting after surgery and cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. A study on pregnant women showed it reduced symptoms of nausea.
May Reduce Muscle Pain and Soreness
A study showed that ginger reduced muscle pain. It does not have immediate impact, but may be effective at reducing muscle pain.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects Can Help With Osteoarthritis
People with osteoarthritis of the kneed showed to have less knee pain and required less pain medication. This study was done ginger extract.
Can Help Treat Chronic Indigestion
Chronic indigestion is the recurrent pain and discomfort in the upper part of the stomach. Ginger was found to reduce the time for the stomach to empty itself.
May Lower Cholesterol Levels
During a study of injecting ginger powder in several individuals, a significant reduction in most cholesterol markers were noticed. Extract was also discovered to lower LDL cholesterol.
Contains a Substance that May Help Prevent Cancer
Raw ginger has 6-gingerol that is considered to have anti-cancer properties. Extract reduced inflammatory signaling molecules in the colon.
May Improve Brain Function and Protect Against Alzheimer’s Disease
Some studies suggest that antioxidants and bioactive compounds in ginger inhibit inflammatory responses occurring in the brain. Some evidence suggests that ginger can enhance brain function directly. Some animal studies also reveal ginger protecting against a decline in brain function due to age.
Antioxidant and Diuretic Properties May Lower Blood Pressure
Study showed that cardamom powder lowered blood pressure levels. Antioxidants may have been the results as they are linked to lowering blood pressure.
May Contain Cancer-Fighting Compounds
Another study of cardamom powder revealed certain enzymes fought against cancer. A study on mice revealed that cardamom prevented 29% of the mice from developing cancer.
May Protect from Chronic Diseases Thanks to Anti-Inflammatory Effects
The antioxidants in cardamom may protect cells from damage and stop inflammation from occurring. One study revealed how cardamom was effective in inhibiting at least four different inflammatory compounds in rats. Another study showed that eating cardamom powder decreased liver inflammation induced by eating a diet high in carbs and fat.
May Help with Digestive Problems, Including Ulcers
A study on rats fed extracts of cardamom, turmeric and sembung leaf in hot water before being exposed to high doses of aspirin to induce stomach ulcers. These rats developed fewer ulcers compared to rats that only received aspirin. Another study showed that cardamom extract alone could reduce the size of a gastric ulcer by at least 50%. Cardamom extract was also shown more effective than common anti-ulcer medication. Test-tube research revealed cardamom being a possible protection against Helicobacter pylori. This is a bacterium that can develop stomach ulcer issues.
May Lower Blood Sugar Levels
The powder form of cardamom may lower blood sugar. A study done on rats fed a high-fat, high-carb (HFHC) diet caused their blood sugar levels to remain elevated longer than if they were fed a normal diet. When these same rats were fed cardamom powder, the blood sugar did not stay elevated longer than the rats on a normal diet.
Cardamom extract decreased elevated liver enzymes, triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
A rat study showed cardamom extract preventing anxious behaviors. This may be due to low blood levels of antioxidants having been linked to the development of anxiety and other mood disorders.
A study showed that obese prediabetic women discovered that cardamom slightly reduced waist circumference. Though rat studies have not had similar results.
