Polyphenols may reduce risk of different diseases

Only 2% of all tea produced worldwide is Oolong tea. This tea contains many ingredients found in other teas and when brewed has shown to give many benefits. This tea contains polyphenols, which is found through various studies to reduce the risk of different diseases.

This tea has an oxidation effect that is due to its color, though the color of leaves can be different going from green to dark brown.

There are several vitamins, minerals and helpful antioxidants that Oolong tea contains. Some of the main ones are polyphenols, theaflavins, thearubigins and EGCG.

Polyphenol antioxidants may reduce blood sugar.

Regular tea consumption may have an effect on improving blood sugar control and lowering risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

It may be possible to be at a 16% lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes by consuming 24oz of Oolong tea daily. This was noted during a review.

Consuming 50 oz per day made it possible for a 30% decrease in blood sugar for diabetics. This was reported at the end of a 30-day study.

Heart Health

Blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and reduced risk of heart disease were shown to be reduced as a result of consuming tea regularly.

Some scientists believe that Oolong tea may boost metabolism. This may help reduce body fat and have a positive effect.

May Reduce Disease Risk

Antioxidants are plant compounds that help your cells fight and recover from oxidative stress. This stress is linked to higher risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and other illnesses. They are rich in vitamin C, quercetin and ellagic acid. Animal studies have suggested that raspberries have anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effect which may help reduce the risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and cancer. A study on mice found that the ellagic acid within raspberries may prevent oxidative damage and repair damaged DNA.

High levels of antioxidants in raspberries may protect against cancer. One test-tube study showed that red raspberry extract killed stomach, colon and breast cancer cells.  Another test-tube study showed H-6, an antioxidant in red raspberries led to ovarian cancer cell death. A study on mice revealed the prevention of liver cancer growth with a decrease in tumor development with larger doses of raspberry extract.

May Improve Arthritis

The anti-inflammatory properties in raspberries may reduce symptoms of arthritis. A study on rats given red raspberry extract had a lower risk of arthritis and those that did experience arthritis had less severe symptoms. Another study on rats revealed less swelling and joint destruction. It is suggested that raspberries protect against arthritis by blocking COX-2. COX-2 is an enzyme which causes inflammation and pain.

It is suggested that antioxidants increased various animal models lifespans and showed anti-aging effects in humans.

Study conducted on rats revealed hibiscus extract increased the number of antioxidant enzymes and reduced the harmful effects of free radicals.

Another study on rats had similar findings, showing that parts of the hibiscus plant, such as the leaves, possess potent antioxidant properties.

May Lower Blood Pressure

Hibiscus tea had shown a decrease in systolic blood pressure during a study on people. Five other studies discovered that hibiscus tea decreased both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

Hibiscus may be seen as a safe and natural way to help lower blood pressure, though it is not recommended for those taking hydrochlorothiazide, a type of diuretic used to treat high blood pressure, as it may interact with the drug.
